My house is literally being ripped apart!
The kitchen cabinets? Gone. The flooring? Torn out. The sheetrock? Cut up. None of this was planned.
How did this happen? Well, two days before leaving for Mexico, I had a contractor come out to check on the high humidity in the house. Long story short—we discovered a broken hot water pipe beneath our home. Hot water equals steam, and steam had turned our crawl space into a sauna. Everything underneath was sopping wet.
It was a disaster. But instead of letting it ruin my trip, I made a decision: I was going to enjoy Mexico anyway. Even after the contractor warned me the repairs could cost $60,000 or more, I chose to surrender. “Take care of this, God. My fate is in Your hands.”
And you know what? My vacation was actually relaxing. I let go and soaked in the beauty around me. But the moment I got back, reality hit hard. Now, I had to deal with the mess. Tears were shed—I won’t lie. On my birthday, no less. That same day, we discovered another leak. Between that, the lunar eclipse, and the constant hum of fans and machines running in the house, I felt like I was falling apart just like those pipes.
But here’s the thing about a good cry—it clears things out. After releasing all that frustration, I felt lighter. In the past, news like this would have sent me into a full-blown panic. But I’ve since adopted my dad’s motto: “It’s only money, honey.” Money can show up in unexpected ways—it has before, and I trust that it will again.
That doesn’t mean surrendering is always easy. Worry has been a longtime companion of mine. But I’ve learned to stand guard at the portal of my mind, as Napoleon Hill says. When my thoughts start spiraling into fear, I catch them. I pray. I shift my focus from fear to faith.
The saga isn’t over yet—we’re still waiting to hear if insurance will cover any of this. But something incredible has already happened. We’ve attracted the most amazing contractors—truly, they’ve been angels. And it looks like this worn-down house is about to get the facelift it desperately needed. New kitchen, new floors, even new bathrooms.
But the biggest lesson of all? Trust.
Even when things look terrible, I remind myself: things often seem worst right before they get better. So if you’re facing something hard right now, I hope this reminds you that you don’t have to do it alone. You may not be able to change your circumstances, but you can trust that there’s a bigger plan at work—one greater than you can imagine.
Hang in there. It will be worth it in the end.
