Peace is a rare commodity these days. Most of us feel worried. We worry about our country, our economy, our planet, our future and the future of our children. With a world that has grown ever more complex and chaotic, trusting that everything is working out seems utterly ridiculous. But what if I told you that the more we worry about things, the worse things get?
“A more peaceful world and a more peaceful century require that we rely not on weapons but on developing a widespread inner peace.” – His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Inner peace creating worldwide peace seems preposterous to many. It isn’t until we dig deeper that we can grasp the complexity and truthfulness of this statement.
When we delve into neuroscience, quantum science, psychology and metaphysics, we begin to understand that what we experience is the result of our thinking. Our mind is a wonderous creator and deceiver in that we can only perceive what we believe. Our mind has a mechanism to filter out that which we do not believe with reticular activating system (RAS), Worse yet, our ego has a nasty habit of claiming anything that doesn’t fit our current belief system as rubbish.
The ego also leads us to believe that if we can predict bad future outcomes, we can avoid them. Thus the reason why so many of us have the habit of worrying. The ego is very fear based and reinforces the belief that if we can predict bad future outcomes, we can adequately prepare for them. The problem is that this is in direct opposition with the Law of Attraction (LOA).
The Law of Attraction is a universal law that not all people are familiar with. Like gravity, it exists, but not it is not visible and therefore hard to perceive. Yet, there have been hundreds of scholars in this realm and now millions of believers. Think and Grow Rich and many other personal development books have helped people understand this fundamental law.
The law says that which you think of is attracted to you. Think you are having a bad day and your outcome becomes certain. Combine that with strong emotion and like a magnet, what you think about will be drawn to you. So, if you continuously think about bad future outcomes, whether for you or for the world, you are putting a significant amount of thought energy and emotion towards an outcome you/we don’t want.
“Worry is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained.” – Arthur Somers Roche
It is our collective thinking that creates our collective reality. Therefore, finding inner peace is not only essential for you, it is essential to our world. By holding the vision of the world we want and creating a sense of peace within, we begin to attract the resources and people necessary to create our new world paradigm.
Here are a few basic steps to create inner peace and outer peace.
1. Start to remove any outside mediums that evoke fear and worry. Mainstream news is most obvious because it mainly focuses on what’s wrong with the world, not what’s right. It reinforces the belief that everything is going to “hell in a handbasket” even though, when you walk out your front door, you likely experience peace in your neighborhood and town.
2. Add sources that help you to feel calm and peaceful. There are many books, blogs, meditations and music that can assist you.
3. Read books on how to retrain your brain, law of attraction, and how to focused your thinking on positive outcomes. These should be read daily.
4. Consider hiring a certified mindset coach. Being a coach, I couldn’t possibly leave that one out! My focus in on business start-ups, time and money freedom, lifestyle and work/life balance. There are many types of coaches so make sure you find the right one for you.
5. Set time aside daily to be by yourself. Ask your family to respect your need for solitude at times. Set rules and boundaries up so they leave you alone and make your inner peace your highest priority. Because the reality is, when you’re calm, everyone benefits.
Remember that change starts with small steps. You can choose one step now that you know will bring you greater peace and then add on later. Meanwhile, blessings to you for a life of peace. Thank you for striving to make your life, your home and our world a peaceful place. Your peace matters a great deal to everyone.
